Major Fundraisers of Warner Woman’s Club
The annual Warner Woman’s Club Flea Market is an important fundraiser, which is usually held in April. The club rents out tables to vendors, who set up on two floors of the Warner Town Hall. A Snack Bar is run on the lower level, which features muffins and coffee in the early morning and multiple choices for lunch, snacks and drinks the rest of the day. Additionally, there is a raffle for a Gourmet Food Basket, heaped with delectable items. For the past two years, there has also been a Silent Auction. The club itself runs their own “flea” table with items culled from all its members.
The Plant Sale, another annual event, is a much anticipated event in the area and known beyond just the town of Warner. For sale are hundreds of perennials, herbs and vegetable plants. Most are grown and tended by the Garden Group of the Warner Woman’s Club or donated by generous townspeople.
Both of these events support and fund the scholarships that the club gives each year. Our academic scholarship for $1,000.00 is awarded to a senior young lady from the Kearsarge Regional School District who will be attending college after graduation. The scholarship is awarded in her second semester of college. The Student Conservation Association sponsors teenagers to work throughout the summer in all 50 states at national parks, state parks, historic sites, wildlife preserves and urban green spaces. Their tasks include things such as building hiking bridges, clearing campsites, re-establishing native plants, research and presentation of interpretive programs, surveying fish populations, revitalizing wetlands in parks, forests and urban sites to name just a few. The club gives a “campership” of $250.00 each year, which pays for room and board for a summer for a New Hampshire girl to participate in this program.
Although these are the two main “donations” given by the club, there are numerous others in smaller amounts to various groups throughout the year.
